Painful Re-Delivery
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
The rain pours down as the levee gives way.
The small town below is swallowed up in its rushing torrents.
Objects once thought unmovable
Now float along like paper sailboats
Till they meander out of sight.
As the tidal river rolls on
Carrying away goods, livestock, people.
A liquid thief that hides in the open
It moves in to fill up hollow areas
It once carved out.
Following a winding course
It deconstructs the landscape as it goes.
Reshaping it to fit the motherly embrace of chaos
A post-natal rebirth.
And as the town's world hangs upside down
It screams from the sharp awakening slap of reality.
The days ahead will be slow and painful now
As it learns to walk again.
