Nature's Agony
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
Dirtfrost covers the shivering flowers
As they retreat from pollution's embrace.
They re-enfold themselves back into the choking earth
Which spits them forth again.
The severed trees ooze thick bloodsap
Onto the desecrated ground.
The leaves scream as their source of life is cut off
Then they shrivel up into brown aborted baby waste.
The clouds send down pure poison
To infest the soil with rich hate.
This serves as a deep vengeful fertilizing agent
Causing sharp spikes to spring up in place of grass.
Birds with glass shard feathers
Fly hell for the winter
Then at last all the fish are killed off
By having their gills clogged with human refuse and other debris
So they leave the oil slick seas to us
Where new toxic pleasures await.
