My Graveyard Friend
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
Each time my heart is kissed by the preciousness of life
I cry a golden teardrop
That when filtered thru the serene glimpses of the sun
Flows into an ever-widening lake
Whose expanding eye lens reflects back an infinitude of dancing colors.
Breezy expressions of all the people i meet
Who know how to live, laugh and love in wonder.
If only i could be one of them
If only this fear...this numbing paralyzing fear would let go.
Inactive most of the day i rarely venture outside.
Children next door playing
Screams of delight and silly giggles
Somehow help to ease the raw bleeding open sores
That cover my soul flesh.
A leper within i am forgotten by myself
Days without number.
Oftimes i see couples in love holding hands
And for that one brief moment i share their happiness.
Then once more the dull throbbing ache within me grows louder
As i sigh, turn away....and retire again to my little cave where no one ever goes.
The darkness here is comforting
And as i settle back into my tomb garden
I wait for the voices outside to just fade away
So that i can be alone again with my one true friend
