Melting Images

As I crept silently into the muddy waters of forgetfulness
I stirred up dead sunken memories.
Rising to the surface
They drifted slowly downstream
Once or twice being caught in the shallows
Amidst the reeds
Then continuing on
Into the cool blue pool of remembrance.

As I paused for a moment in mid-reflection
I espied tiny creatures
Swimming against the swift flow of thought currents.
I watched them darting here and there along the banks
Searching for sustanance.
Hiding in rotten pieces of brain matter
Feeding on smaller more helpless notions
Which happened across their paths.

Taking refuge here
They waited with thirsty tongues peeping out
For the rains of re-inspiration
To come pouring down.
