The Web Poetry Corner - Dwayne Pagnotto - I'm Sorry

I'm Sorry

by

Dwayne Pagnotto

I hate myself for what I've done
Each and every second that I am livin.
And hope that maybe someday
She'll find it in her heart
To say I've been forgiven.

What happened
Was not done
To hurt her
But because
I was trying to be cool.
"Play hard to get"
They always said.
And now I feel
Like such a fool.

A lifetime of apologies
Would never be enough
To take away the memory of that pain.
I swear
I want to crawl in a hole and die
So maybe she could forget my name.

But by chance maybe someday
We would meet somewhere
To start all over again.
And if she didn't turn away
She'd hear me
Say the words,
"Can we still be friends?"

NEXT?
