Fly Away

Young lovers, all-consumed in their passion
With no thought for anyone else
Break violently thru the barred doors of indecision
Then die in each other's arms.
Their lives ending with an exclamation point.
Not far away from the hallowed ground where they expired
Twin butterfly spirits, with wings like the sunset, drink nectar from the same flower
Then sad awakenings begin.
Cut down like two stalks of wheat in the sudden flow of spring
The land around them bleeds into an early autumn
Forced to mature ahead of time.
The birds mark their passing
By singing the tragic couple's favorite love song over and over.
While from bright starry mansions
Angels can be heard weeping in tones of unutterable sadness.
Now each day
The two glorified lovers go strolling over the tops of mountainous clouds
Where Bluebells and Daffodils grow.
But in the little town below, nothing ever changes.
Time is frozen there now
And the land stays perpetually young.
