Expressions Of Providence

Let us pause to ponder the ground we tread upon
The soft submissive flesh of our dying mother
Slain for our sakes
As you pass by
Pluck not the tender sweetlings
Which blaze open in harmless petal sprays
From her tear bedappled bosom
Only kneel
Ever so soft
And with closed eyes and surrendered spirit
Partake deeply of the moist perfumed airsprings
Which linger fresh
Then escape from our senses
And yet they remain strangely near
To be recalled one day perhaps
When wandering alone thru the sunlit woodmeadows
And a short breath of wind
Wafts a secret aroma to us from the past
Which tickles our memories
Causing to float as if in a dream
Back over the years
So that we hover unseen
Watching ourselves from above
Beholding our whisper image
As it moves in slow liquid underwater motions
Creating this brief blissful interlude in time
These things connect each of us together
And we in turn receive them
From our diseased battered brokenhearted Earthmother
They our the spillovers of her diminishing bounty
And freely she offers them
Asking only one thing in return from us her children
