Cracks in the Canvas
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
I want to crawl into a wet painting before it dries
as it graces a decaying wall of abnormalities.
Looking out into the unfinished world with abstract vision.
I want to rebrush it Picasso style.
Twisted bodies and dead horses.
Madmen wailing, as the clouds mushroom into a large scale version of peace.
Tuck the children in
and see if they can make it
thru the wild wooley fun of plummeting nightmare nursery prayers.
As scenes of altered doom on a clear day
embrace the outlying land with unnatural darkness.
Lulling the world to dreams, with whispered tales of good fortune's beggary
While the sky bundles the stars
onto one side of itself
closes its giant bludgened eye, and drifts off to sleep.
Leaving the wolves to stand guard over the sheep.
Angels scream
then the hunt begins.
