The Web Poetry Corner - Dwayne Pagnotto - Chasing Away Shadows
Chasing Away Shadows
by
Dwayne Pagnotto
Heavy silence lingers
Around the tables
Which once held people
Who talked of art
Talked of love
And talked of life
Life unhurried and uncluttered
Drifting away
Into the slow painful hours
Of the morning.
Where freedom hides.
Then unshy angels
Dodge the darkness
And exude a golden light
Which draws all attention their way.
They flash and disappear
But their afterglow lingers still.
A soft momentary
Shattering
Of deep lonliness.
This poem, and the ones following it, were written while I was drinking at various bars on First Street over several nights.
