The Web Poetry Corner - Dina Dinsmoor - Godparent

Godparent

by

Dina Dinsmoor

I remember the day of her baptism
you and I
young as her
but older

how good it felt to stroll down an aisle
again with you
tears of beauty find me here

to hold her in our arms

to see you as father
me as mother at your side

the promise we made for her
our dutys
our love

someday she would play next to our children
and if we had none we still had her in Gods sweet way

and now you are gone
and she is growing up without you

you are so far i cant send you a letter
so far you cant get a picture
or send her a birthday card
we both miss you

shes just starting kindergarden
i bring your name up
but your absence will be noted
