Budding bright gem
God’s radiant light.
Whom I hold
In awe

You have so many questions
I see wonder and puzzlement
In your face
When I cannot answer
Or that grateful flash of insight
When we figure it out together

I hold you tight
Let you go
Simultaneously
I cannot freeze time
I dream of what you will be
To whom you will belong

You are not mine
But your love is assured
You tell me with your eyes
Even as you realize
My failings as a parent

Young teenager
You have given me so much
So many reasons to be proud
Not simply because of your exceptional giftedness
But because of the goodness of your heart
