The Web Poetry Corner - Diane Klammer - My Daughter on a Swing (for Audrey)
My Daughter on a Swing (for Audrey)
by
Diane Klammer
I watch you soar forward
While I stand behind
Giving you an occasional push
When you need it.
I remain still
As I witness your motion.
You rise higher and higher
Before my eyes
Swiftly ascending upward,
Growing, living.
For one brief instant I grab you,
Hold you suspended
But you protest and demand to be released.
So, with one final push,
I let you go
And watch you fly forward again.
This time you want no assistance
For you love the discovery
Of your own freedom.
NEXT?
Why don't you look at
Sunshiny Day
