Hours at Hand
by
Diane Klammer
Our world is in turmoil
Seas are boiling over
In torrents of fury
Responding to more
Than global warming
Prime minister Rabin of Israel
Stood for peace
Was killed by violence
The song still
In his pocket
Answered by a bullet
Those who do more than dream
Of democracy are destroyed
Day after dark day
They are snuffed out
Before their flickering lights
Can take full flame
How many more slaughters
Have to haunt us?
Families from The twin tower
Tragedy 9-11 in New York
Linger with grief stricken
Loved ones mourning
Unfinished business
Amidst murmuring prayers
The world over
If we all clutched hands
Which are feeble with pain
Broken by brutality
Would it matter?
