The Web Poetry Corner - Diane Klammer - Flying

Flying

by

Diane Klammer

You press your tense blue fingers
Against the cold sky,
Ask God if He sees
How green those trees are.

Do you believe in God?

Did L. Frank Baum know green
Is the color of eternal life
When he wrote all those Oz books?

You're pretending
The window is gone.
No more TV screen.
This is a real broomstick
You're sitting on.

Your hair bristles back
As you stare at
All
Those swimming pools,
Homes you cannot afford.

To leave

You must go through the motions
Though the decent makes you queasy,
In spite
Of the seatbelt sign
Flashing red.

NEXT?
Why don't you look at Burning
