The Web Poetry Corner - Crystal Dawn Allen - To The Sand Sculptor

To The Sand Sculptor

by

Crystal Dawn Allen

he's never visited the desert,
but he's felt it in his hands
it is always
shifting, changing,
rearranging
never losing things,
but moving things
from one place to another
making shapes no cloud or sea has ever
dared to shape
dared to erase
dared to give another face
and he tells me it is easy
to get lost if you are trying
to remember from the landscape where
you are going, where you stand
but moving like the sand,
you are never lost, but travelling
through every dune you've ever walked through
even though you don't know how to
visit it again.
i've never visited the desert
i've never tried to understand
and yet I do somehow,
and he tells me
that we travel like the sand
