telling you

the dark circles under the muted eyes
of a girl who tortures herself
are telling.
telling her family she is killing herself
(they think with ambition) "How Admirable!"
telling her friends she is killing herself
(they think because of her failed love) "How Tragic!"
telling herself she is killing herself
(she thinks because she is sad) "Damn them all"
but honestly,
the circles under the eyes of this girl tell
the reflection in the glass that
she is finally crazy.
finally legitimate.
finally an artist.
finally angry enough to try.
