The Web Poetry Corner - Azra Daniel Francis - God had better be.

God had better be.

by

Azra Daniel Francis

Why should I love supposedly-good-almighty God
More than I love my cat?

When I lost my job,
My cat, not supposedly-good-almighty God,
Clung to me purring me stay sane.

When I lost my home
To an act-of-God storm,
My cat, not supposedly-good-almighty God,
Clung to me purring me stay sane.

In fact,
Whenever this god-awful plan for the Universe
Includes my spiritual pain and hurt,
My cat,
Not supposedly-good-almighty God
Clings to me purring me stay sane.

After my cat dies,
And I eventually ascend to God's Heavenly Paradise,
God had better be a cat. Otherwise--!
