The Web Poetry Corner - Arnab De - Basu wanted to be a cloud

Basu wanted to be a cloud

by

Arnab De

Basu was my friend,
We were in the same school_
He was late everyday, it was sad!
When he was asked to answer,
He gazed like an aberration_
I felt so bad!

Most of us wanted to be a professor, a doctor, perhaps a lawyer!
Basu wanted none of these_
He wanted to be a cloud!
That would be content with the chirps of the birds,
Or just float aimlessly, and sometimes_
Thunder aloud!

Most of us are now teachers, doctors or perhaps a lawyer!
But Basu could not become a cloud.
He works in a small mill.
There are times we talk and drink tea together,
We discuss politics and then its time to leave_
I walk a bit with him!

The one of us who teaches
Could become a doctor_
Had he been a lawyer,
He would lose nothing!
Everybody achieved what they aspired except my friend!
He could not become a cloud!
Basu, who saw, smiled, but could not conquer_
A motley crowd!
