Handprints
by
Anne Strausser
We decorate the world with our handprints.
The handprints represent the scope of our lives.
For each print we share,
shows someone how much we care.
We raise our hands as a gesture of the tongue.
to shake someones hand says I'd like
to share your day.
and is quite suitable if you have no words to says.
some share handprints in differant ways.
the artist and his canvas
shows gift of the mind.
wtih the sculpture of his design.
the poet shows a more conversational print.
lending of his dreams,
and hoping the audience,
will help mortalize the hint.
some offer handshakes of teamspirt.
with the vocal points for the world to hear it.
some bind hands behind bars,
to help sanction the worlds fears.
with less compassion,
just more hostility to border,
the souls tortured years.
while parents show the kids
how much they care with a suttle spank on the rear.
than there's those who drown
their foes in beers
some in good companion to celebrate
with their piers.
there's a multitude of handprints within
the world.
some speak of triumph,
others speak of disaster,
still the generations speak the loudest print.
one that reminds us we're part of mankind.
