American Nightmare

by

Angela Darlene Bean

Welcome to America
New citizens
Welcome to the land
Of the supposed free
Where everyone is said
To be happy
And full of glee
Welcome to America
You walk down the streets
Of New York
And see homeless
Begging for some change
And a little to eat
You smile and shake hands
With everyone you meet
Welcome to America
Where 13 year olds carry guns
And teenage girls have sons
Where there’s a likely chance
You’ll get raped
Pr mugged
By some tatooed thug
With thick eyebrows
And a smug
Welcome to America
Where pollution fills the air
Where people die
Everyday
Welcome to the
American Nightmare
