How It Was

This life
the stained carpet of memories
the blackboard
the smell of smoke in the room
life was good then
she's gone now
hearing her laugh, and cry
making her feel better when she was down
trying to cheer her up and act like a clown
drowning the tears, and throwing away the fears
it helped her when I was near
