How is it I Must
by
Alan C. Keimig
How is it I know what I must do and why is it I must always do?
What joy falters in my heart that my resolve to be a King must do
Its duty with the whitestar silence of this royalty? What duty to pretend
The pretense of a kiss, to bear, to give, to pursue in naked reverence,
To give sacred holiness to this dignity that turns the heart inside
To be that love, to love, to behold that loveliness to remain so
Loyally loved and beloved, to love so well the presence of that kiss the memory
Of that given name, that rising star at every new sunset to become the loving love
Of love and its regard so faithfully to do what is done best again to love you still.
