Green River Valley
by
Alan C. Keimig
Like smoke above the long
Drawn distance the valley floor
Drifts out five hundred feet
Below full a subtle muffle
Floats at dawn the high rise
Of Rainier bathed off in sun
Picked peril in daybreak pink
The eastern sky swathed in vapor
Trails wing corridors toward home's
Pathways early still and silence
Hangs in youth and dreams long
Labors truth lest the lasting freeze
Made the landscape's part reward
Part damnation part stone release
The curl of smoke lifts heavenly
Before account sensed sharp the
Chill the distance carried yonder
With resonance of wonder sepulcher
Of sight and sound of clarity come
In heart there lead.
