Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
This is the penultimate Trekker film. The best of the bunch by far, Kirk, Spock, Scotty (James Doohan) and the rest travel back in time, to capture some humpback whales, with the purpose of saving their present time from one of those pesky alien forces. They travel to 1986 San Francisco, and end up in what Kirk calls "an extremely paranoid culture.". Well, it is California after all. While in the city, Kirk (William Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) find a couple of humpback whales, but have a little trouble convincing the woman (Catherine Hicks) who takes care of them, that they need to borrow them for a little space travel into the future. Now who could resist a story like that, I wonder?
The most entertaining of the series and most certainly the funniest. It's as if the cast and crew all took a large dose of laughing gas and decided it would be great to make fun of all the old Trek plot devices. It worked too. Though a few Trekkers might feel a little heart-broken, there are plenty of great moments for the die-hard Trekkers. My favorite scene: When Shatner describes the language of the 20th century to Nimoy while they are riding on a city bus. That scene is worth the price of admission.
