Skyline is cheesy from start to finish and not in a good way.

Trailers and teasers are promotional tools used to create hype around a certain film. These aren't supposed to be used to summarize an entire film, show the ending, or place the only good scenes of the film in it. Skyline looked intense in the trailer. However, when the scenes are put into context it doesn't quite work out.

Strange lights descend on Los Angeles, drawing people outside to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. There have been countless alien movies with the same themes. There is a cool concept here and there, but none of them are executed correctly. Every line of dialogue recited by the actors is pure garbage. Even on paper, there's absolutely no way that this sounded good. None of the characters are likable from the beginning to the end. The plot points are rather predictable from start to finish. I didn't expect a good screenplay from an alien flick, but this is bad. The entire script feels as if it was thrown together in a few hours.

The acting is on par with the dialogue here. There isn't even one mediocre performance to be seen here. Each and every one of them are awful. Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, David Zayas, and others perform. I enjoy David Zayas' work in the show Dexter, but I'm surprised that he sunk to this level. When I mentioned that none of the characters are likable here, this is partly due to the acting. Nothing feels real or sincere. Just from their facial expressions, the entire alien attack feels very tacky.

A large number of audiences were excited by the Skyline trailer due to the awesome clip of people being pulled into the alien spacecraft. The flick is filled with CGI. While the movie looks great, that doesn't say anything about the quality of the film itself. At the end of the day, no matter how breathtaking the visuals are, it doesn't make a good movie. The best moments in the movie were already provided in the trailer.

After watching the trailers, I wanted Skyline to be good. To be honest, this is a genuinely horrid film. The only redeeming quality here is the CGI. The movie feels boring and repetitive very quickly. None of the characters are even remotely interesting. There aren't any twists or turns that I didn't see coming here. Skyline is cheesy from start to finish and not in a good way. I wouldn't want to punish someone that I like with recommending this. It's excruciating to watch. Skip at all costs.
