Frank Moses traded his professional past as a black-ops CIA operative for a new identity to go back to normalcy. He's forced to return to old habits when an assassin puts out a hit on him. He goes after the woman he has feelings for to keep her safe. The plot is exactly what you would expect out of this film. However, for this film you shouldn't even be concerned with the story since it's an action flick. The comedy is hit and miss, but nothing is laugh-out-loud funny.
The cast is what mostly captured the attention of audiences. Bruce Willis is back in action and is always fun to watch on the big screen. The rest of the cast is Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and Karl Urban. The whole main cast are big names in Hollywood and are very entertaining. None of the acting is phenomenal, but what do you expect from an action film?
When it comes to explosions and guns, Red knows what it's doing. Some of the action is pretty general and doesn't stand out. However, there are a few fight scenes that are shot very well, such as Bruce Willis at night in his home. All of the FX look great. After all, the fighting is the reason people see these films aside from the cast being used
Opinions may range from really enjoying this film to absolutely hating it. The movie isn't great, but it isn't bad. It does what it's set out to do and that's to entertain the viewer from start to finish. Don't expect anything from the story and just sit back, relax, and enjoy the action. Red ends up being just okay, but it could have been much worse.
