Two not-too-bright girls reinvent themselves for their high school reunion to impress those who put them down in their high school years. The story is nothing new, but the script is where this movie glows. The lines given throughout the movie never get old and are hilarious. Of course, it has a message given by the end of the movie which may come off as a little preachy, but the movie does a good job of monitoring it.
The two female leads are Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. These two actresses know how to express their characters and show it in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. Lisa Kudrow is absolutely hilarious and it's fun to see her corky situations on screen. However, the entire cast pulls its weight quite well. Some of the minor characters are clichéd high school characters, but at least it's done well.
Throughout the movie, there are flashbacks of Romy and Michele from high school. When these moments are playing, it gives an older look to the film. When the film is in modern time it chages back, capturing both time periods fittingly.
Every once in a while, people need a feel-good flick. This is one of those films that has incredible replay value. There are a few flaws, but does a tremendous job overall with delivering a funny and entertaining flick. However, it's not one to take the younger children to since it uses a lot of excessive language and sexual humor. Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is definitely recommended.
