Throughout the life of filmmaking, a lot of revenge flicks have been released. Most of these don't have too much of a story or are just action movies with such big plot holes it's unbelievable. However, Man on Fire puts a twist on the revenge sub-genre.

Ex-CIA operative, John Creasy, accepts a job as the bodyguard for a 10-year-old girl in Mexico City. The two become close until she's kidnapped and John Creasy will do anything to get her back alive. It doesn't sound like there's much of a difference between this and other revenge flicks from a glance. Don't be mistaken, there's much more beneath the surface. The screenplay is phenomenal and doesn't hold back from delivering everything from emotional moments to fun or violent scenes. There's no doubt that this film has a strong screenplay behind the film and has a lot to cover in its running time.

It's not possible for a better cast to of been chosen for this film. Denzel Washington is John Creasy, Dakota Fanning stars as the young girl,Radha Mitchell is the mother of the child, and Mickey Rourke co-stars. It shouldn't be a surprise that Washington has given another fantastic performance. He's convincing, believable and relates well to the audience. Dakota Fanning gives an excellent presentation and pulls off the emotional scenes. Radha Mitchell is great, as well. The entire cast puts in its share of work and much more. All dialogue is recited to perfection. This selection of actors completes the excellent screenplay.

The camera work is decent and action scenes are depicted well. All of the violence is shot tastefully while capturing great angles. Later in the film, the film contrast is adjusted to give daylight an extremely bright look and the dark shots to be nearly pitch black. There aren't many big shootouts or explosions, but the movie looks wonderful.

If you're expecting to see a hardcore action flick, Man on Fire isn't the movie you're looking for. This is an emotional suspense flick that grabs its viewers and doesn't let go. This isn't the type of film to rent for children. Man on Fire is recommended to those who are in the mood for something that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
