Trevor Reznik is a machinist. He has something wrong with him and is extremely skinny. He can't sleep, eat or concentrate. Trevor begins to see people who nobody else sees. The story can confuse some people, but it's a guessing game if Trevor is going crazy or is really seeing everything. The writing is great with a very dark dialogue. The pacing may be a little slow, but pays off at the very satisfying ending.
Christian Bale plays Trevor Reznik and gives one of the best performances of his career. He lost 63 pounds to get the role and is so skinny, the viewer can see almost every single bone in his body. This shows the dedication he had in order to receive this role. Christian Bale's performance is highly engrossing. Without Christian, this film wouldn't be what it is.
The visuals are excellent. The camera work is flawless and colors are drained. There are very few colors used in the film, most of the movie has a blue tone. The entire film looks just as depressing as the story continues to get. The way this movie was shot is speechless, it's something an individual has to see for himself to believe.
A lot of blood, sweat, and tears were put into the production and it shows. The work put into this film is incredible. The Machinist tends to make the viewer emotionally drained. Christian Bale shows his true talents through this film in this memorable film. The Machinist is a movie the entire public should see.
