The story is an interesting take on aliens. The premise is, what if aliens come to earth and they are kept in what seems to be a concentration camp? The worst of the people holding them soon starts to become one. Now his team is after him and he has nowhere to go other than District 9. It is a unique idea and involves the audience a lot.
Acting is needed for a film like this, because they are working with a lot of CGI. The main actor, Sharloto Copley, gives a great performance as the man turning into an alien. He showed the terror, fear and how far a man would go to get to his wife and see her again. District 9 does not have oscar worthy acting, but it does work great for a film such as this.
It would be hard to match visuals for movies such as Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen but they did make them just as good, if not better. The aliens look very realistic, just as real as the humans. There is a lot of blood in this film, and if you do not like blood in movies stay away. But, the blood goes by quick and does not come close to matching movies like SAW and Hostel.
Overall, District 9 is one of the best movies of the summer. I'm very happy that I was able to see it on opening weekend. It is more than just entertainment, it has deeper meanings and a lot of references to the Holocaust. This is the action movie of the summer and is highly recommended for all older teenagers and adults.
