At heart, Bridesmaids is a chick flick, but it proves to be an effective one for everyone.

The type of humor depicted in films changes over time. What was funny decades ago may not be quite as funny now. The Hangover proved to be a huge hit among moviegoers. People were laughing so hard in the theater that some even cried. A wave of films attempting to receive the same status began to spring up. From the trailers, Bridesmaids appears to be the average chick flick. Looks can certainly be deceiving.

Picked as her best friend's maid of honor, broken Annie looks to bluff her way through the expensive and strange rituals with an odd group of bridesmaids. The plot itself sets the film up to be the average chick flick that many of us guys dread seeing. However, this film takes on much more vulgar humor than what's seen in your average chick flick. There are lines of dialogue and situations that are LOL funny. However, the movie does bring elements seen in chick flicks in. While there is plenty of humor for both genders to laugh at, the film ultimately becomes about love and friendship.

The cast of a comedy can make or break the laughs. Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy, and Rose Byrne work well together. This group of women deliver the laughs very well. Kristen Wiig isn't new to the comedy world being involved with Saturday Night Live. Everything from delivery of the one-liners to the expressions are priceless. The performances here won't be anything that will stick with you, but they're very entertaining to watch on screen.

Bridesmaids doesn't just have random scenes there for laughs. Everything has something to do with the rivalry between two of the women or the plot itself. There are drawn out scenes of back and forth humor. This could have been an absolute disaster, but it proved to be highly effective here. The gross out gags used here are executed well.

Who expected Bridesmaids to be one of the better comedies to be released in a while? Definitely not me. I had undeniably low expectations, but was very surprised. I found myself unable to contain myself from LOLing. It takes quite a bit to make me LOL in the middle of a theater. If The Hangover is your type of humor, this is sure to have you laughing. At heart, Bridesmaids is a chick flick, but it proves to be an effective one for everyone. It's hilarious and I'm glad that I gave it a chance. Easy recommendation if you found The Hangover hysterical.
