During an archaeological expedition in Antarctica, a team of archaeologists and other scientists find themselves caught in between a battle between the two legends and only one species can win. The rough concept of these two fighting is cool, but the plot is atrocious. It has many plot holes and isn't very engrossing. The movie just doesn't flow correctly and doesn't feel like an Alien or a Predator film, but something much worse. The screenplay is tacky and laughable, not in a good way.
The dialogue isn't the only element causing the movie to come off as unprofessional. The acting is just as bad, if not worse. Not even one actor communicated well on screen. The characters all felt fake and rather annoying. The actors either are inferior at their job or without any motivation.
One component of the originals of the two series is the atmosphere. Alien offered eerie, futuristic, and dark corridors. Predator presents large and forest-like sets. Alien vs. Predator provides neither and instead gives a pyramid built by three civilizations millions of years ago. Most of the rooms appear the same and is just disappointing.
After all the hype built up to the release date of Alien vs. Predator, it's a real letdown to see it fall this low. However, one positive thing I can say about this film is the rare occasion a long lasting fight would occur. These battles are relatively enjoyable. Most of the clashes in the film are quick and short, though. Alien vs. Predator is unintelligent and wouldn't recommend it to the general public or the fans of the original Alien and Predator franchises.
