The Phantom of the Opera has been in various forms of media since the early 1900s. It has been interpreted from a book, to a play, opera, and movie. They have all been critically acclaimed except for the latest effort to bring a classic to the "big screen".

The movie is a story of romance and mystery. Christine Daae (Emmy Rossum) has suddenly been promoted from dancer to lead performer in an upcoming opera due to Carlotta's (Minnie Driver), the diva, illness. It is opening night, and the theater is packed. Ms. Daae blows the crowd away with a breathtaking performance. Unknown to everyone, Christine has been taking lessons from who she believes in the Angel of Music. This "Angel" becomes obsessed with her and kidnaps her, so he can take her as his bride. Raoul (Patrick Wilson) tries to step in and save his childhood friend (and current crush).

The Phantom of the Opera has it all (or almost). Beautiful sets, costumes, and singing will mesmerize you as you watch this film. Scenes of the crazy love triangle in Paris are well directed. Andrew Lloyd Webber had his share of input in this movie, so it is fairly faithful to the opera. People who don't normally enjoy musicals will most likely enjoy this film. Even though it isn't an Oscar winner, give it a try.
