The reason that I did it was to take one last stab at becoming a professional writer (that is, getting paid to do it). It seemed to me that my career as a computer professional was nearly over anyway, given how difficult it is for people my age (62) to find regular employment in that area. I hoped that by writing a daily column and spreading the word far and wide, I would demonstrate both my talents and my ability to make a deadline. The latter I accomplished, although I must tell you it was only with enormous effort. As for the former, that is up to you to decide. But, the truth of the matter is, I was unable to convince anyone in a position to pay me that those talents were sufficient.
I tried everything I could think of to publicize what I have done, thinking that perhaps a "full disclosure" of the many facets of my work would get the necessary attention. I was wrong.
But, as I often remark, "Shit happens." I gave it my best shot and it failed. So it goes. Perhaps when I scale back, my work will gain in quality what it loses in quantity. As one editor wrote who I have been repeatedly urging, unsuccessfully, to read my work, "You write faster than I read..."
It's time to slo-o-o-w down.
Talk to you later...
