However, when they took the step of portraying General Betrayus in the true light of his role in the horror that is the Iraq war, we acquired a new admiration for these folks. Instead of merely politely criticizing the administration for their monstrous behavior, they spoke truth to that power instead. While the aristocratic lap dogs of the U.S. Senate were "condemning" them for "defaming" such a "hero" as Sir Petreaus...as blatant an example of the aristocracy "protecting their own" as can be found in our nation...we were applauding in the wings. We regard the true heroes of Iraq as the grunt soldiers who go out each day into the oppressive heat of the Iraqi desert and face fanatical jihadists and crazed insurgents in our name. They are following orders, doing their duty and risking their lives day in and day out for all of us. They are the ones REALLY paying the price of the insane desires of our so-called leaders.
Generals, on the other hand, are almost all ass-kissers and bullshitters. They have to be. In order to advance in the modern armed forces, you do not, as in ancient times, lead your troops...at the front of the column...into battle. Instead, they sit behind the lines moving soldiers and equipment like pieces on a chess board, devising ever more subtle strategies to win "victory" over shadowy enemies whom they neither know nor understand, regarding both men and material as merely numbers in an accountant's notebook. To get to that exalted state, they have "gone along to get along" in a fashion that is both corrupt and disgusting. As lieutenants they yessir to captains, as captains they bow to majors, as majors they genuflect to colonels in the servile manner that now passes for military glory. Even Betrayus must get on his knees to the moronic Decider who sits in the Oval Office doing the work...just ask him if you don't believe us...of God Almighty. Having given up the cheap thrills of cocaine and alcohol, His Majesty George the Second now gets his kicks sending men and women to get blown to pieces...if they are lucky...or scarred and disabled for life if they are not.
Betrayus did betray us. When he agreed to devise yet one more strategy to help that evil person pretend for one more day that the enormous devastation he is causing is "justified" and "working," he made Monica Lewinski look like a saint for merely giving the last Prom King we elected to office a real blowjob rather than the symbolic one that Betrayus bestowed on Bush. By helping Sir George convince the more gullible among us that he is doing God's work, Betrayus earned his place in the pantheon of modern serial killers that makes even Charlie Manson look like a choir boy. While day in and day out men, women and children in Iraq pay dearly with their lives and treasure for his culpability, he gets to go before Congress as a fucking HERO and give a mumbled, jumbled, thoroughly dishonest account of his activities in service to Evil Incarnate.
Too much, you say? Too "over the top?" How can we speak so disdainfully and disrespectfully of such Great Men? It's quite simple. We too believe in speaking truth to power. What's the point of being polite when such monsters are cheerfully destroying the world in our name? What do our children and grandchildren have to look forward to except more of the same unless, we the supposed older and wiser, speak out? Instead, we will save our polite words for MoveOn. Like Jon Stewart of the Daily Show they have...at the very least...made a start at revealing the underlying filth in modern politics. Jon does it with humor. MoveOn does it by calling a spade a spade. RIGHT ON to both of you!
We still aren't going to give them any money, though. They are going to help elect a pack of Democrats next year who will, we confidently predict, continue to destroy the world in much the same way as the Republicans...in our name, of course?
Talk to you later...
