How stupid do they think we are?

Last week the administration, the congress and their media whores were back in business as usual. Beginning the week were various comments by officials...and reported uncritically by the co-dependent media...CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN...the usual suspects...about the home grown American terrorist, Lucas John Helder.

The arresting authorities exclaimed that "He didn't look like a terrorist." What does a terrorist look like? Obviously, he isn't a cute white boy from Minnesota! How stupid do they think we are?

His parents and the sheriff of the country in which he was arrested both opined that he didn't realize the magnitude of what he was doing. Huh? A twenty one year old American male that does not know that planting bombs is SERIOUS? How stupid do they think we are?

It was just a "stupid" prank. PRANK?! No, a prank is planting a whoopee cushion on your teacher's chair, not a bomb in an old lady's mail box. How stupid do they think we are?

But, that was just the beginning of the circus. Ex-president Carter, to the consternation of the administration, journeyed to Cuba amidst newly-discovered "evidence" that Castro's Cuba has been "sharing" bio-warfare information with terrorist states. For some unexplained reason, this information was not known or revealed, either to Carter or anyone else, before Carter's trip. Castro loudly condemned this as a lie...apparently, he isn't as stupid as we are...and Carter confirmed that he also saw no evidence supporting this allegation. Of course, the administration implied spin is that doddering old Jimmy was fooled by canny old Fidel. Also of course, this has nothing to do with the overwhelming desire of the American people to end the sanctions against Cuba, supported by over 70% of us, nor with the votes of the Cuban block in Florida. So Bush, always responsive to our desires, vowed to INCREASE sanctions against Cuba! How stupid do they think we are?

In the Middle East, both sides are lying so much that it is embarrassing to listen to them. Yet our government, whose most important tasks are protecting us from harm and, in the words of George Washington, keeping us out of foreign entanglements, refuses to clarify any of this bullshit, refuses to say, one way or another, whether information we are fed is true or not. How stupid do they think we are?

Due to survey results, the current PIC (Pervert in Charge) of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, John Walters, had to admit that anti-drug advertising has not worked. Indeed, the surveys showed that the billion dollar advertising campaign actually increased the probability of young people "experimenting" with drugs. When Willy (as Bruce Madison) worked for the Canadian Drug Commission in the early seventies, they discovered and disseminated this very information to all who would listen. Obviously, our Drug Czars were not among the attentive. So Jolly Johnny spun the news the best he could saying, "This campaign isn't about REDUCING drug use, the goal is to drive ABUSE down." He also claimed that the new ads tying drugs to terrorism ARE working. How stupid does he think we are?

Finally, at week's end, the story-of-the-year-of-the-week was that the administration had some pretty clear prior warning of terrorist attacks last year and that at least one FBI agent had warned that Zacarias Moussaoui...arrested in Minnesota before 9-11 and who had tried to obtain flight training without any interest in taking off and landing...might be preparing to hijack an aircraft in the air and fly it into a target. Duh!

Even if you discount this as being speculative and not enough to issue warnings to the general population last summer, why didn't the FBI check to see if others were seeking the same sort of "training?" Most interestingly, why has the information been suppressed until now? The Vice President, when the Congress began to investigate 9-11, specifically asked them to keep such information secret, in the spirit of bi-partisanship. Now, the Bushites would have us believe that this is just partisan politicking aimed at casting aspirins on our Great and Glorious War Leader to influence the elections next November. Meanwhile, the Demidupes exclaim, "I know you are, but what are we?" How stupid do they think we are?

Perhaps the question really should be "How stupid do WE think THEY are?" Answer: "Pretty dingy-danged stupid!"

The truth is that our government is back into fool-some-of-the-people-all-the-time-and-all-of-the-people-some-of-the-time mode and the lying and obfuscation are unlikely to abate any time soon. They may believe that if they tell us the truth, we won't vote for them. But then, we don't vote for them anyway, at least more than half of us don't. So what do they really fear? Could it be that they think we might just show ALL of them the door? Let's do it!
