As we have often said in these columns, the only drug pushers we have ever met in our long and eventful lives have been medical doctors. Sellers of illegal drugs that provide pleasure need no sales force, no advertisements. Their much less effective competition in the legal marketplace could not succeed without the help of a compliant medical force and government storm troopers. Without the help of these government thugs, drugs like Prozac and Xanax wouldn't stand a chance against marijuana and heroin. These latter drugs sell themselves. Nor is this because they are addictive. The simple truth is that people...all people...attempt to get the most enjoyment they can out of life. If some people abuse these substances or get "strung out," it is as much a result of the lack of truthful information about their real effects, as anything else.

The recent ads purchased with YOUR tax dollars for the Super Bowl continue this long trail of disinformation and deceit. By attaching the War on Drugs to the much more popular War on Terrorism, these creeps have once again gone over the top. In those ads, kids joyfully announce that they "helped destroy a building" or "killed a cop" by purchasing illegal substances. This is meant to "wake you up" to yet another bogus "danger" that these drugs bring to society. Of course, if the same logic were applied to purchases of goods from, say, China, then practically EVERY American would be "guilty" of all the totalitarian excess of that government! Besides, however terrorists obtain their funds, it is THEY who are blowing up buildings and killing cops, not the users of any products they may be involved in selling. To assert otherwise is, at best, delusional, at worst, criminal. But, hey, any man who can say with a straight face that he is opposed to medical marijuana for terminally ill patients on the ground that they "may become addicted"...as asserted by Barry McCaffery, Clinton's drug "czar"...is himself so deranged as to need confinement in a facility for the criminally insane.

Ed's Note: CNN reports that a couple of days after the Super Bowl, heroin dealers in New York City are distributing bags with "Osama bin Laden" on one side and a picture of a plane flying into a building on the other. Do we detect a note of cynicism?

Meanwhile, our partners...in the War on Terrorism...in Europe are everywhere either legalizing or decriminalizing the same drugs our evil Republicrat perverts seem to find so very dangerous...unless, of course, they are merely "youthful indiscretions" as with our current heroic president...or his daughters and his niece. These countries recognize that the U.S. led crusade to criminalize drugs and drug users has led to nothing but trouble. In the U.S. alone, over 500,000 people...a large percentage of whom are African Americans, by the way...are currently incarcerated for non-violent drug crimes...usually only providing substances that people are clamoring to purchase...but often just for using these same substances. What a pathetic waste of human resources and taxpayer dollars.

The Libertarian Party, on the other hand, has finally risen to the challenge. Casting aside its fears of being thought of as too "radical" by the public...and recognizing that a large majority of Americans feel both that the War on Drugs HAS not worked and will NEVER work...the LP has declared that in upcoming elections this issue will be in the forefront along with its traditional advocacy for smaller government and lower taxes. Standing behind the movements sweeping the Western United States and Canada to legalize marijuana and revise all laws concerning dealing with so-called dangerous drugs, they have joined with Governor Gary Johnson of New Mexico in calling for repeal of ALL current federal laws concerning drugs. This will put the issue back where it belongs, with state and local governments. Just as with alcohol prohibition, there may be areas where, because of the expressed wishes of the people, these drugs will never be legal. That is as it should be. But the LP states courageously and forthrightly that the federal government should get completely out of the business of regulating pleasure. Period.

We couldn't agree more. But, don't take our word for it. Check out the following resources:
