Now it has become clear that, in order to expand the reach of our site, we must publish in multiple languages. While the site is already visited by people from about 100 different countries, only a few of our pages are in languages other than English. So, if you are just beginning to contemplate a future on the Internet and are willing to work "on the come" for a year or two, we may be just what you need. There is always the possibility that what The Dream Machine is providing will be valuable enough to eventually pay you handsomely for your work. But, even if that fails to materialize, you will have gained invaluable experience to carry to your next project.
Translating Web documents is no ordinary translation task. Language on the Web tends to be colloquial, concise and filled with jargon and slang. So a translator has an especially arduous task in getting the essence of what has been written carried over to another tongue.
Willy Chaplin, the Webmaster of the Dream Machine cluster of sites, is himself schooled in French, Spanish, German and Russian, but is not a polished translator. Also, it has been many years since he utilized these skills. Still, he is in a good position to supervise and assist other translators. Stan Gotlieb, the author of "Letters from Mexico" is fluent in Spanish. Gypsy knows German, Yiddish and French. None of us, however, has the skills or the time to become efficient translators.
If you are interested, take a look at our sites and please email us about what you think you can do. Address your inquiries to willy@dreamagic.com but please understand at the outset that we can not pay you for your work (but, we will, of course, give your copious credits for what you do).
Perhaps a good beginning would be to submit a translation of this very page!
Thanks,
Willy Chaplin
